So Far, So Good

I've been looking forward to writing this post today. It's been a good week and I can't wait to tell you about it. I've been doing some experimenting, had some victories, and I am now an inventor. And I lost another pound or so.

Since this gluten-free aspect is new I'm checking out g-f products. I hate cooking breakfast -- cereal or oatmeal or something equally easy is about as much "cooking" as I want to do. I have discovered Van's Waffles and they are quite tasty. I didn't miss one iota of gluten (and no, they're not paying me). Pop 'em in the toaster and top 'em off with your usual additions, or cut up some fruit, or even have them plain (they come in blueberry and apple cinnamon too!).

Finding a delectable g-f product was one victory, but there were others:
  • NO BREAD CROSSED MY LIPS AT OLIVE GARDEN! Really?? Really! I was just as shocked as you are.
  • Hummus is actually good with celery. Who knew? I thought Stacey's Pita Chips were the only accompaniment allowed.
  • I swam laps while The Husband was running an errand that was supposed to only take 30 minutes (the length of time I generally swim) but took 45-60 instead. I swam the entire time. It shocked the shit outta me when he told me how long he had been gone.
  • I'm consistently leaving food on my plate because I'm full. I'm becoming satisfied with less.
I'm still listening to my Slimpod and I can tell a difference in my energy level, my attitude and my actions (no bread at Olive Garden, for cryin' out loud!!). I believe it's helping. I'm not tempted to cheat, I'm exercising regularly, and my energy level is good. Honestly, adjusting to this new lifestyle has been much easier than I thought it would be, and the only thing I can credit is the Slimpod, because this kind of consistency isn't part of my MO.

Finally, I invented something this past week. It's tons of fun and, hopefully, a good workout. I created POOL DANCING! You, too, can experience this fabulousness. All you need is a pool and some music. The Husband asked if I wanted to join him in the pool a couple of days ago. I cranked up the music and hopped in the shallow end. A song came on that I liked and I danced -- prancing around in the shallow end, swinging my arms around. He looked at me a little crazy, but it was fun! I varied the steps and arm movements, or moved forward and backward using the water as resistance. And, after several songs, I felt like I had dome some work. Send me $19.95 (plus S&H) and I will sell you your very own Pool Dancing Franchise. But wait, there's more! You will also received increased stamina, a huge smile on your face and a sweat-free exercise session (you're in water, remember?). Remember, it's not $39.95 or even $29.95. All this can be yours for a paltry $19.95 (plus S&H)!

So, Monday Morselers, there you have it! It's been a good week.

Have you tried to incorporate new habits in your life? Do you have any tricks you want to share?

Have you been there?

  1. WOW!  What a positive post.  I am feeling your achievements; the excitement and pleasure of accomplishment.  You go gurl-frend! Pool Party at your house!

Coming from California I’ve experience hummus, sprouts, and the like eating. I had a friend who was a lifer vegetarian, so picked up some pointers and food ideas from her as well. As they say, life is a journey filled with adventures that foster new experiences. So, enjoy, dear friend… enjoy?

As for pool dancing, I don’t own a pool.  So my dancing is strictly on land. I LOVE ACDC! They always get my hips gyrating. Or some fast beated 1980-2000’s country songs: Alan Jackson, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Travis Tritt, etc. Some heavy (hair) metal groups like Twisted Sister, then CCR, or even punk rocker Joan Jett, can get me jiggling all over the house. I’ve thrown my back out several times, but sooooo it’s worth it. I feel youthful, invigorated, HAPPY!

My healthy nutrition achievement was years ago.  I discovered I could eat food AND loose weight.  What a novel idea, huh!?  As a reformed starvation dieter this is a monumental milestone. Another self discovery: the dedication given to starvation dieting all those years ago, I now give to eating properly with daily activity. Maintaining the lifestyle came so easy to me… Finally.  Something that was simple in my life.

Keep it up Claire! Enjoy the new you and all that you can do with her!

  3. Good for you!  I had been trying to be wheat and gluten free also. I cheat sometimes.  But basically I feel so much better. I am trying to cut out sugar and caffeine, too!  They really effect my mood!

  4. Good for you - chipping away at habits takes time and patience (guess which one I fail miserably?)  I don't have any gluten issues but I feel much better when I don't have it.  My latest trick has been to fill 3/4 of the plate with fruits and veggies and then a little lean protein.  So far, it's been working - I'm down 22 pounds.  I've also tried to step up my workouts a little bit (and doing them outside seems to be an added mood booster)  I'm really enjoying your blog.

  6. Yay, Denise! 22 pounds is awesome! I'm boosting my exercise too -- I truly believe that's the key, esp at my age (54). Thanks so much for reading!

  8. The more exercise I do the more energy I have - the best way to start a day is with some form of exercise for an hour.
I think pool/aqua aerobics already exist (at least in the UK), but Water Zumba...that's a profit-making machine just waiting to happen...
