Time to Step it Up!

I have a startling revelation for you! After years of research and personal experience, I'm convinced that exercise, more so than food choice, is the key to weight loss.

Case in point: I haven't done jack shit as far as exercise, except some dancing around the house, which was more than I did the week before, and lost a pound. My food was pretty good -- not quite as much bready stuff -- but it wasn't perfect. All I did was move a little bit.

I'm hoping it inspires me to move more. Time will tell. I'm a real baby when it comes to cold weather though, and we are, thankfully after a long, hot summer, moving into the cooler part of the year. With no pool heater, swimming is out. Walking works fairly well for me, especially if it's sunny, but not if it's too cold
(yes, still planning to move to Colorado. No, I'm not sure how I'm going to do it either). So, that leaves DVDs, my mini-trampoline, and dancing around the house (which is actually one of my favorites). I do love my Yoga Booty Ballet DVDs (Latin and Cardio Cabaret are awesome!).

So, who's with me? Is it time to step it up (even indoors)?

In other news.......

Yo soy Latina!

Now, I know most of you don't know me, (although you may have seen my picture) so I'll clue you  in to my white-ness. I am the daughter of a freckled, fair-skinned redhead who warned me repeatedly about too much sun. I didn't listen, because I grew up in the 60's and 70's and 80's when tan was grand. I mean Coppertone tan. I still hang out in the sun without sunscreen....all summer long. I look tan (though not exactly Latina); it's more of a matter of my freckles melting together.....sorta. But catch me nekkid in the shower, and you'll be blinded by my albino/untanned parts. I wanted to be one of those dark, exotic women.....and I've always wanted to be bilingual (multi-lingual, really), so the desire has always been there.

And, yes, I married a wonderful Hispanic man, so my name is now Lopez. My maiden name was Chilton (pretty effin' white, if you ask me).

On the plus side, I speak better Spanish than my husband, although I can't keep up with his aunt. I have a variety tasty Mexican dishes in my repertoire, and some of my favorite songs are Latin tunes.

But obviously, I am Latina because the geniuses at Poder sent me a magazine, thereby solidifying my Latina-ness. I truly love the Hispanic culture, language, people, food and music. I may never be a Latina by birth, but I am in my heart. I'm just glad someone recognized it.

Have you been exercising? Do you have plans for stepping it up during the fall/winter? Any other beautiful, sexy Latinas out there?

Have you been there?

  1. It's nice to get to you know a little, Claire! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and commenting. I appreciate your thoughts. As for exercise, I walk regularly but still eat too much!. So I need to cut back a tad and crank up my activities so I can fit back into a few things. Thanks for the inspiration. Have a great week!

  2. Cutting back and stepping up is a good plan! I need to do a little more of both. Thanks for finding me!

  3. Well, my sweet name buddy, I have to strongly disagree. Food choices are always in our power (whether we exercise those powers or not). Exercise can be taken away in a heartbeat with an injury or illness. So, yes, of course, it is good to exercise, but not good to depend on it to lose or maintain weight. Again, just my humble opinion (borne out by watching numerous exercise junkie friends gain weight when injured).

And I am about as white as you are, but stopped sunning without sunscreen years ago. Being a Southern California girl, I got my share at a young age, though. I still love the beach, but I only spend few hours at a time there, and wear 1,000 sunscreen (or something like that). :D I do wish I spoke Spanish. I understand quite a bit, which is always startling considering I have no Hispanic family and no Spanish-speaking friends! Just living here, I've learned quite a few words.

  4. I agree, Claire! Trust me, I know, without a doubt, that I can't eat everything I want, and that if I took my food choices out of the equation, I'd gain (A LOT!) in a heartbeat. But I *do* think that exercise is key for me to lose.

I may regret the lack of sunscreen in my life, and I applaud you for using it (my mother would be thrilled!).

    I sooooo appreciate your comments!

  5. I love your blog! Plus, it's fun to be your name buddy. :P I am starting Weight Watchers today (again *sigh*) and will get to the exercise soon. I always feel more like exercising when I feel better and lighter. I'm weird, I know.
